FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL

I would like to thank all of the community members from both school and the parish who had touching words of support for me after the Appointment Letter was posted last week. I must say that I feel very humbled and privileged to be offered the position and be given this great responsibility. I love working at Joey’s and will continue to strive to make our school the best possible place for your children’s educational journeys. I look forward to continuing to work with the Joey’s community now and into the future.

RELIGIOUS MATTERS

Children’s Mass

Last Saturday many students from St Joey’s attended our Pentecost Children’s Mass. Over the last 5 weeks at Children’s Liturgy of the Word, we have been concentrating on the Holy Spirit and discovering the wonderful gifts which come with being filled by the spirit. It was a wonderful opportunity to share this special Eucharistic celebration with some many of our students and their families.

CONGRATULATIONS

I would like to congratulate Mr Bernard Fitzgerald on his appointment as Principal of St Joseph’s Park Avenue. I know how much love and pride Bernard has for the school and I know we are in good hands with him as our official leader. I know Bernard feels very humbled to be given this privilege and I look forward to working with him and the rest of our very dedicated staff to make our school the best it can be.

SELF DEFENCE LESSONS

As part of Health lessons and as a follow up from the Daniel Morcombe Safety Curriculum taught during Semester 1, Year 4, 5 and 6 students are invited to take part in a 4-week self-defence program. This course complements the Daniel Morcombe Child Safety Curriculum, which talks about staying safe, and being able to exit from unwanted and unsafe scenarios. This self-defence program has been running at St Joseph’s for the past 2 years and has proven very enjoyable, practical and educational for our students.

A note with more information has been sent home with your child. Please complete all the relevant forms and return to school ASAP. Children will not be permitted to participate without the forms being completed.

LIFE EDUCATION VAN

As part of our Health program, every second year we organise for Healthy Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education van to visit. The van is due to visit us this term during weeks 6 and 7. Each class will visit the van to learn about healthy lifestyle choices. Mrs Tennille Kerrisk will then complete follow up lessons with the classes during Health lessons.

The classes will be working through the following modules:

Prep – My Body Matters
Year 1 – Harold’s Friend Ship
Year 2 – Safety Rules
Year 3 – Harold’s Diary
Year 4 – Mind Your Medicine
Year 5 – Bcybersafe
Year 6 – Decisions

Below is a note from Liz and the Life Education Team:

Liz, Healthy Harold the Giraffe and the Life Education Mobile Learning Centre will be at St Joseph’s Park Avenue from Tuesday 22nd to Tuesday 29th May, 2018. We can’t wait to meet our old friends and make new ones too. We’ll be learning about healthy lifestyle choices and having lots of fun along the way.

Head to our Parent and Carer Hub.

to have a look at the modules that your kids will be working through. You will find detailed overviews of the modules and fact sheets with 'conversation starter' ideas so that you can carry on discussing the lessons at home. We’re really looking forward to coming to your school. Liz and Healthy Harold.

NAPLAN

Last week our Year 3 and 5 students sat for the NAPLAN tests. This testing period ran very smoothly and the majority of students were calm throughout the process. Thank you to everyone in the school for ensuring the school was quiet throughout the testing periods. A special thanks to the P&F for providing the Year 3 and 5 students with a treat of an ice block at the completion of the tests on Thursday.
