Positive COVID Case Notification

St Joseph’s Catholic School Park Avenue wishes to advise you that, during the past week, we have been notified of positive cases of COVID-19 in our school community.

St Joseph’s regularly consults with the Catholic Education Office and relevant authorities, and continues to follow the advice of Queensland Health regarding cleaning requirements.

Queensland Health has advised that no quarantine of students or staff is required.

As COVID-19 remains active in our community we ask you to continue to monitor your child’s/children’s health and if they develop any flu-like symptoms:

  • Keep your child/children at home
  • Seek a PCR or Rapid Antigen test where it is recommended and notify the school of positive results. Please be aware, a negative COVID test does not change the requirement to be symptom free to attend school.
  • Follow the advice of Queensland Health

As we continue to navigate the pandemic, please remind your child/ren to:

  • maintain good hand hygiene at all times
  • cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or the inside of their elbow and dispose of tissues in the bin immediately.
  • practice social distancing from others where possible
  • wear masks when required

We will continue to work closely with health authorities to keep our school community informed of any developments and advice. Thank you once again for your ongoing support.

RELIGIOUS MATTERS

2nd Sunday of Lent

Jesus is tempted in the desert.
Luke 9:28-36

Living the Gospel – ‘Listen to him!’

God’s voice from the cloud claims Jesus as his Son, the Chosen One and then goes on to instruct those present – and we, the readers – to ‘Listen to him!’ For the disciples, this was a message not to get carried away with their own ideas about the Messiah but to listen to what Jesus was saying about the suffering he must endure and to what he was saying about true discipleship. Jesus tells us that to be a follower of his involves sacrifice, hardship and often unpopularity. It is this message we must listen to as much as the promise of salvation.

Term 1, 2022 Fee Statements were emailed and posted to Parent Lounge on Wednesday 16th February. These were due for payment on 2nd March 2022 and are now two weeks overdue.

Please ensure that you have increased your payments if you now have extra siblings in the School to ensure that your fees don’t get behind.

All new families should have received your Parent Lounge Login details.

If you have not received these, please contact Tracey or Megan in the office.

If paying by Direct Deposit, please use your Account Number as the reference instead of names (this is the 6-digit number on your Fee Statement).

BRAVEHEARTS SAFETY PROGRAM

We had a school visit from Ditto (Braveheart’s loveable lion) on Thursday. Our Prep, Year One, and Year Two students were lucky enough to participate in Ditto’s Keep Safe Adventure Show. The program aims to promote personal safety messages through song and dance that complement the Daniel Morcombe Safety Curriculum already heavily embedded at Joey’s.

Ditto’s 3 Rules:

  • We all have the right to feel safe with people.
  • It’s ok to say NO if you feel unsafe or unsure.
  • Nothing is so yucky that you can’t tell someone about it.

CLASSROOM NEWS

Yr 2

A look at a day in Year 2

We thought we would share what a typical day looks like in Year 2.

We chose Monday 14-3-22. Our day began with our first assembly for the year in the MPA. Was nice to be able to gather as a whole school again.

After we said good morning and took the roll, we organized the message bag and came together to talk to God in prayer, Monday morning we usually focus on our School Prayer. This week in You Can Do It, we are focusing on Time Management.

In English we begin the week with an introduction to our Sound Waves focus sound which is – I for igloo and complete activities as a whole class.

Following English is two 45min lessons, the class is in two inquiry groups – Religion: The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant and HASS: People’s connections to places.

At 11am we have lunch and enjoy playtime with our friends.

After lunch we learnt about our Learning Intention and Success Criteria.

Mathematics for the week. This week we are focusing on Place Value:
Learning Intention: We are learning about place value up to three-digit numbers.
Success Criteria: I can correctly say, read and write three-digit numbers in their worded form. I can make and record 3-digit numbers, including internal zeroes.

We then split into our four groups and complete two workshops with the other two workshops on Tuesday.

After second break we listen to a story focusing on our reading strategy of the week.

This week we are reading - How to babysit a Grandma? By Jean Reagan with the

comprehension focus of Finding the Main idea.

Our last lesson of the day is Inquiry, and we swap groups from the morning for Religion and HASS.

To finish our day, we collect the message bag and reflect on our day

conclude with prayer.

Hope you enjoy a little insight into our day.

Wednesday (02/03/2022) was ASH Wednesday and we participated in a prayer assembly in our classroom. Mrs Carter attended our prayer assembly and talked to us about Project Compassion.

From Mrs Thorsen, Mrs Tennyson, Mrs Watson and the students of Year 2.
