FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to Week 3.

Prep Orientation is scheduled for tomorrow. This is a great opportunity to welcome our newest students to the Joey’s community as well as strengthening our engagement with our new and continuing parents. The first session will be held from 9:00am – 10:00am and the second session from 12:00pm – 1:00pm.

Due to COVID processes, these sessions will be ticketed events for parents being held in the Multi-Purpose Area room while the incoming students spend some time in the Prep rooms with the teachers.

During this day, our current Prep students will spend the day with the Year 1 teachers getting to know them and the current Year 1 class will spend the day with their Year 6 ‘Buddies.’

This is always a very exciting day on the Joey’s calendar.

The Rockhampton City Council have recently installed two signs on Main Street outside our school. This has been an effort to promote the left lane as you head towards Glenmore Road as an added slipway into our carpark in the morning and afternoon.

The signs indicate ‘No Parking’ between the times of 7:30am – 9:00am in the morning, and 2:30pm – 4:00pm (when amended) in the afternoon. Please be aware that failing to adhere to these signs could result in a $55 fine.

For those who may have been parking in these spaces to drop off students please enter the car park to do so via the drop-off area. I also ask that when dropping students off in the morning that you do not just stop outside the office near the turn which causes unnecessary congestion but proceed as far down the drop-off area as possible in order to move as many cars off the street as possible.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

As you may be reading this, interviews for the new APRE position at St Joseph’s beginning 2022 are being held today. After the shortlisted applicants are interviewed, the panel will make a recommendation to Leesa Jeffcoat and Bishop Michael. The announcement of the successful applicant will be sent out to the community via an official letter shortly after.

My Long Service Leave will begin next week on 25th October until the 12th of November. During this three-week period, Mrs Bernadette Brennan will be acting Principal. Mrs Elizabeth Carter will be Acting APRE and Mrs Deanne Senini will be back in her role as APC. If needed, please do not hesitate to contact the team through the school office or via email.

See you back in Week 7 for an exciting end to the year.

Have a great week.

Living the Gospel – Servant Leadership

What does it really mean to practise servant leadership? It means placing the needs of others before your own desires for prestige or authority. We’ve all known people who have been given a position of leadership and they really only wanted the job as recognition of their popularity; a thank you for previous work done; an opportunity to demonstrate their strength of will or cleverness with words. Servant leadership is about collaborating; it’s about empowering people to do their best; it’s about trusting others and about rolling up your sleeves and getting on with the job.

CLASSROOM NEWS

Yr 6

Year 6: By Amelia & Daniel

We can’t wait for Fun Day and Graduation! The whole class is working very hard in all subjects and being on top of our work. Year six has made a lot of memories, we are very excited and can’t stop talking about all the different high schools we are going to. It is going to be a great experience. Year six this term will be harder than ever with lots of assessments before the end of the year.

English: By Cooper W and Paige

In English, we have been learning about fractured fairy tales. At the moment we are working on writing our own fractured fairy tales. We have done a couple of Reader’s Theatre tasks called: Little Red Boxer Shorts and Cinder Really. This activity is very exciting, challenging and entertaining. We are enjoying opening up our creative sides.

Maths: By Mackenna and Alfred

In Maths, we have been learning about the order of operations. It is challenging because we haven't done it before. The strategy we are using is BIDMAS and this represents Brackets, Indices, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction. We are slowly getting the hang of it.

Religion: By Makenzy & Jace

In Religion, we have been learning about the Holy Spirit and about how Jesus and the disciples experienced the Holy Spirit. We have looked at different scriptures in the Bible and also the Gifts of the Holy Spirit and how we can experience and encompass these ourselves.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Congratulations to the following students who will celebrate their birthday this week. They are: Joanna Janssen (Yr 2), Mackenna Kinlyside (Yr 6), Flynn Kirkman (Yr 3), Ava Burns (Yr 1), Mason Vass (Yr 1), Harper Corry (Yr 3) and Lilah Kipling (Yr 3).

Have a great day.
