FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Guardians

As the end of the school year draws near, we still have a few significant events to celebrate on the Joey’s calendar.

Monday 30th November at 9:00am we will be holding our Semester 2 Academic Awards and our Annual Awards. Due to the number of awards given out, we are only able to invite the parents of Year 6 students who will be receiving academic awards along to the event due to COVID restrictions and Capital Works physical space and parking limitations. We have decided to give the preference to the parents of the Year 6 cohort as this will be their final awards ceremony at Joey’s. This event will be zoomed out to all other members of our community.

Wednesday 2nd December at 6:30pm will be our Year 6 Graduation Dinner at the Frenchville Sports Club. This is still restricted to 150 people and will be a private event for the Year 6 students, their parents and the Year 6 staff.

Thursday 3rd December, our Year 6 class will be holding their ‘Fun Day’ celebration at the Northside Pool. Information about this event was sent home in the form of a note with each student.

Friday 4th December at 9:00am we will be hosting our Graduation Mass which will also be our End of Year Mass and our Year 5 Leadership Handover for 2021.

Due to our restrictions of space and the 500-person limit, along with our 385 staff and students, we will be inviting 2 parents for each of the 45 Year 6 students (90 people) as well as 2 parents for each of the 12 incoming Year 5 students (24 people) who will be inducted on this day. Along with our Parish Priest, Fr Marcel, that makes exactly 500 in attendance. Even with the students being able to sit closely together in their own cohort groups for school events, we will still be pushing the recently lowered 2 square metre per person restriction for our visitors on the day due to limited spacing.

I will also remind people that there will be very limited parking available on the day.

As of this year, we will no longer be posting class lists for the upcoming year. There is no longer any need to do this as I will now be posting the names of the teachers and the ESO that will be assigned to each year level. As we come to the completion of our Capital Works project, you will all be aware of Joey’s educational philosophy and how our new open learning spaces supports the delivery of the curriculum to our students. Every child in the school will be a part of a Year Level cohort and will all have two teachers and an Educational Support Officer within their double sized learning spaces.

The Joey’s teaching staff for 2021 will be as follows.

Prep – Rebecca Gabriel, Kirsty McLeod, Beth O’Brien and Kristie Sloan
Year 1 – Michelle Hannah, Paula Roati and Kylie Schoneveld
Year 2 – Ann McCutcheon, Kerrie Tennyson/Aimee Watson and Lyn Lavender
Year 3 – Erin Tranberg, Leah Ward and Jacinta Beak
Year 4 – Elizabeth Carter, Gisele Vaz De Miranda and Kelson Tennyson
Year 5 – Louise Chapman, Catherine Farr and Rachael Duncan
Year 6 – Hannah Hamilton, Anna Young and Jacinta Biddulph
Inclusive Curriculum – Lesley Donohoe and Brooke Black
PE Specialist – Rebekah Hall
Arts Specialist – Kristy Whitehead
MiniLit Special Project – Leonie Mooney and Madelein Paap
Indigenous Support – Jess Ivers and Ashley Gray
Special Project Numeracy Enrichment – Alice Wayman
Special Project Support – Rebecca Whiting

Book lists for 2021

A note has gone home and a message has been posted on the SkoolBag App notifying families of the process for ordering book list equipment for 2021.

As you will recall from last year, our Parents and Friends Association assisted the school to purchase a variety of bulk stationery items for classrooms, in an effort to lower the cost of book lists for families.  This will happen again for next year’s book lists and I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the P&F for their generosity.

Please take the time to read the information in the note and consider placing your order soon. If you have misplaced your note, a copy can be found on the SkoolBag App under parent notes.

If you have any questions or problems with placing your order, please contact me by calling the school office or via email: deanne_senini@rok.catholic.edu.au.

PLEASE NOTE: THE OPTION FOR SCHOOL DELIVERY HAS NOW CLOSED. YOU ARE STILL ABLE TO PLACE ORDERS BUT THE PACKS WILL BE DELIVERED TO YOUR HOME.

Parents will be notified once the packs arrive at school for collection.

Academic Awards Assembly

Our Semester 2 Academic Awards Assembly will be held at 9am on Monday, 30th November. Due to current restrictions, parents will be unable to attend this assembly in person, however, it will be zoomed out to any parent who would like to watch the assembly. A link for the zoom session will be communicated closer to the date.

Semester 2 Report Cards

Semester 2 reports will be available for viewing through Parent Lounge from midday on Wednesday, 2nd December. Please ensure you are able to log into your Parent Lounge account before this date.

KEYBOARD LESSONS

Leanne Voss will offer Keyboard lessons again in 2021 for interested students in grades 1 – 6.

Lessons are of 30 minute duration and will be conducted weekly at school on a rotating timetable so that students do not miss the same lesson each week.

Students will be required to have access to a keyboard for practice, and also purchase a music tutor book and theory book. Lessons will generally be given to groups of 2 or 3 students with some individual lessons available when it is not possible to match students of similar musical ability. The lessons will focus on using a chord bass with an emphasis on utilising keyboard features such as different tones and rhythms.

Playing keyboard is an excellent extra curriculum activity to develop not only musical skills, but creative thinking, hand-eye coordination, concentration and commitment to task.

Enrolment forms are available from the office or below for both new and continuing students.

FRIDAY PIZZA

  • Pizza is to be ordered and paid for from outside the Year 6 room in the morning from 8:15 – 8:35am.

  • Pizza slices will be delivered to classes in provided brown bags in tuckshop boxes at lunch time.
