FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Guardians

Last week we had our Prep Orientation day welcoming 54 new students to the Joey’s community. I would like to thank everyone who was involved with making the day such a successful one. Our Year 6 student leaders were wonderful in welcoming our new families as well as helping set-up and pack-up our facilities. Thanks to Katie and Debbie for presenting on behalf of the P&F Association as well.

Wearitto were present on the day and have requested that I inform you of their online ordering facilities. Currently their physical store is still under COVID social distancing procedures and have recommended that people order online to reduce potential frustrations in regard to these processes come next January. Jump on to the link below to order online.

http://www.wearitto.com.au/

It is my pleasure this week to inform you that Mrs Ashley Gray, mother to Amelia Gray in Year 1, has accepted the role as our new Indigenous Educational Support Officer for the remainder of 2020 and 2021. Ashley will be starting the role in a couple of week time as she finalises her commitments with her current employment.

I am delighted to have Ashley join the Joey’s staff and know that she and Jess will make a lovely team and support network for our Indigenous kids. I am sure you will all make Ashley welcome. I would also like to thank Rebecca Whiting and Kylie Schoneveld who have filled in these hours supporting our students while waiting for this position to be filled. You have done a wonderful job.

This week I will be involved in the Year 6 ‘Camp’ days and even though still around, I will be generally unavailable due to my commitments with the students. During this time, Mrs Brennan will be Acting Principal and will be available if you need to contact a Leadership person urgently.

Last week we held our final Board meeting for the year. While we successfully updated our school’s uniform policy which I will make available to the school community over the next couple of weeks, we also said farewell to some long-standing Board members. Mr George Hunt who is our current Board Chair and Mr Steve Senini have both been members of the School Board for over 6 years and with the last children graduating from Joey’s this year will be moving off the Board. I thank both of these community members for their long service to the community and their personal support for myself in the infancy of my career as a new Principal. You will be missed.

Rebecca Wogand has contacted me about having a special sale for our second-hand uniform shop before the end of the school year. Rebecca and I would be looking to hold a special sale in the school’s Multi-Purpose Area adhering to COVID restrictions and spacing. We will be holding this sale on Saturday, the 28th of November with times still to be determined. More information will be provided as it comes to hand.

I would also like to thank Rebecca for her tireless support and volunteering at Joey’s over the years. Rebecca also has her final child graduating Joey’s this year and would be keen to teach another volunteer ‘the ropes’ in regard to our second-hand uniform store. If you feel that you could help us with this, please contact me through the school office.

Green ‘Confirmation of Enrolment 2021’ forms were sent out to all families last week. Please fill these out and return them to the school office as soon as possible. This information is essential to both the staffing and financial organisation of the school.

Finally, congratulations to past Joey’s student Lincoln Seierup (eldest brother to Adelaide in Year 6) who last week accepted the role of TCC School Captain in 2021. Lincoln was the recipient of our Joey’s Leadership Award at our 2015 Presentation Night. Past student, Breanna Everingham, was also elected as a Vice-Captain for 2021. Well done and good luck to two of our wonderful past students as well as their parents who I am sure, must be very proud.

APRE REFLECTION

This week we're leaving the subcontinent and travelling over 6,000 kilometres to Ethiopia and a small community called Meki.

In Meki, a small community south of Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa, love and participation are paramount. The community is a melting pot of women, men and children with different experiences of life in Ethiopia and other parts of Africa and the world. There is a special place in Meki called the Kidist Mariam Pastoral Centre, which plays an important role for women, especially those who have found themselves in vulnerable situations.

Follow this link and you’ll find all the videos, activities, and reflections we are exploring at school.

Knee-up Challenge

How many consecutive knee-ups can you do without letting the ball touch the ground? For a tougher challenge, use your sockball. What differences do you notice between it and a regular synthetic ball?

Scripture reflection

John 13:34
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
What does John 13:34 tell us about the idea of love?

Assistant Principal Religious Education

Book lists for 2021

A note has gone home and a message has been posted on the SkoolBag App notifying families of the process for ordering book list equipment for 2021.

As you will recall from last year, our Parents and Friends Association assisted the school to purchase a variety of bulk stationery items for classrooms in an effort to lower the cost of book lists for families.  This will happen again for next year’s book lists and I take this opportunity to sincerely thank the P&F for their generosity.

Please take the time to read the information in the note and consider placing your order soon. If you have misplaced your note, a copy can be found on the SkoolBag App under parent notes.

If you have any questions or problems with placing your order, please contact me by calling the school office or via email: deanne_senini@rok.catholic.edu.au.

Day for Daniel

Friday 30th October is Day for Daniel. Students are invited to wear a red shirt, along with the school sports shorts to school this day to help raise awareness of the importance of Student Safety. During the day, classes will be exploring the key messages of Recognise, React and Report.

Last week we celebrated our annual Book Week dress up day. As always, it was amazing to see the amount of effort families put into dressing up for the day. Please enjoy the following photos and video clips of the staff and students.
