FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Guardians

Welcome to Week 10. I hope all parents were able to catch-up with their children’s teachers during last week’s Parent/Teacher interviews. As we approach the final stretch for the year, we are encouraging our students to continue to focus on their studies and make the most of a short last Term.

Regretfully, our usual Term 4 swimming program has been cancelled for 2020. Even though we value our school swimming program, after reviewing the COVID processes involved in the transport to and instruction of our students at the pool, we have decided that holding our usual 5 weeks of swimming is not optimal this year.

In Term 4, our students will be taking part in 45-minute lessons on their normal PE day as per usual. The extra time saved from not having to change clothing and travel before and after our usual swimming lessons will be used to focus on maximising our teaching and learning time before the end of the school year.

Just a reminder that Term 4 is a 9-week Term that will commence on Tuesday the 6th of October. This is due to the public holiday on the Monday the 5th of October.

On your school calendar, Monday the 19th of October is listed as a Pupil Free Day. This will not be the case as the Pupil Free Day held on Friday, 4th of September had replaced this day.

Don’t Forget….

  • School Board Meeting, Wed 16th Sept @ 5:30pm in ICE room
  • RUN4FUN Colour Explosion, Fri 18th Sept (Info Flyer sent home to all families)
  • Term 3 Concludes, Fri 18th Sept
  • Term 4 Commences, Tues 6th Oct
  • St Joseph’s Technology Review, 13th – 15th Oct
  • 2021 Prep Orientation Day 22nd Oct

Kindest Regards
Bernard Fitzgerald
Principal - St. Joseph’s Catholic School Park Avenue

Happy every day. Learning every day.

APRE REFLECTION

Parable of the official who, receiving mercy, does not show it to others.
Matthew 18:21-35

Jesus is pretty clear about forgiving people. Seventy times seven is a lot of times – four hundred and ninety times, to be exact!

Can you imagine forgiving someone that many times, if they hurt you that many times? Why or why not?

Can you imagine Jesus forgiving someone that many times? Why or why not?

Forgiveness of a crime doesn’t mean that it was okay for that crime to have been committed. It means that the forgiver is no longer going to spend energy on hatred and anger related to the crime and to the person being forgiven. It actually frees up the forgiver as much as it does the forgiven, for anger and hatred are a very heavy burden that drains a person and affects the person’s whole life.

Because you forgive someone, does it necessarily mean that you trust that person again? If you have to forgive someone seven times for a crime, is it healthy or smart to continue to trust that person?

Would Jesus want you to continue a close relationship with that person, or would he just ask you to give up on the anger and hatred and get on with your life?

Term 3 Curriculum Overview

What an interesting year we are having curriculum wise. Unfortunately, COVID-19 and our building works have meant that some of our usual Curriculum based events have not been able to occur, however, here is a reminder of the things we have still be able to run and achieve throughout Term 3.

  • The introduction of an exciting new maths program in our upper school
  • The opportunity for students to compete in the Independent Education Union’s Art Competition
  • The opportunity for students to compete in the Independent Education Union’s Literary Competition
  • The opportunity for students to compete in the annual ICAS competitions
  • Each child participated in the World’s Biggest Child Safety Lesson
  • Science Week Activities – every class had some special activities for Science Week
  • The opportunity for all students to participate in the annual Premier’s Reading Challenge
  • Child Protection Week activities
  • Weekly PE and Drama lessons
  • Parent Teacher Interviews
  • Weekly awards

We are very proud that we have been able to continue providing opportunities for our students to be able to engage in rich meaningful learning tasks even though we have had many obstacles placed in the way.

Thank you to all the Joey’s staff who all have worked tirelessly and adapted in many ways to ensure our students continue to have many experiences to enhance their learning.

I wish everyone a safe and happy holiday break and look forward to continuing offering opportunities to our students as best we can throughout the ever changing situation we see ourselves in.
