FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Dear Parents & Guardians

With COVID-19 impacting nearly every school process, I am taking the opportunity to contact you in regard to our Parent/Teacher interviews that are scheduled for Week 9, Monday the 7th to Friday the 11th of September.

In order for our interviews to go ahead as planned, COVID-19 preventative processes need to be put in place.

To meet these processes, we ask that you please refrain from attending any interviews if you are feeling unwell or displaying any flu like symptoms. This is imperative.

If you have a booked interview time, and for whatever reason you are unable to attend your allocated time slot, please let your classroom teachers know in advance so they are not waiting around for an interview that will not take place. Unfortunately, earlier in the year, many of my teachers and Leadership team members, who sacrifice time with their families to be available for interviews were left waiting for late evening interviews that parents booked but did not attend. Please be considerate and contact your child’s teachers well in advance if you are unable to attend. This will allow them to leave school sooner and be with their families.

If you are choosing to attend, please do not be offended, but our staff will be putting Social Distancing protocols in place and will be sitting a minimum 1.5 metre distance/4 square metres apart and will be sanitising interview spaces in between interviews.

Please be aware that students that attend will need to sit quietly and not be able to play as there will be no active duty available and our OSHC service will be using the available spaces.

Remember, if you are unable to make a time during Parent/Teacher interviews, I invite you to contact the classroom teachers to organise a mutually beneficial time to discuss  your child’s 2020 educational journey.

I hope all of the Fathers and Grandfathers in our Joeys community have a happy Father’s Day this Sunday.

APRE REFLECTION

22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

Jesus reveals his future death, rebukes Peter

Matthew 16:21-27

Living the Gospel. Have you got what it takes?

For some people, to be a Christian is a ‘soft option’ – they see being Christian as being a bit ‘fluffy’. This week’s gospel is a reminder of the real challenge of being a Christian. Jesus reminds us that to be one of his followers we must be prepared to pick up our cross – whatever our particular cross might be – and still follow his example. To be a Christian means that we don’t fall in a heap when difficulty comes our way; we take up the burden – our cross – and continue to look forward with hope. To live like Jesus is no easy option.

Semester 2 Parent Teacher Interviews

SEMESTER TWO PARENT TEACHER INTERVIEWS

Parent Lounge has now closed for parents to book an interview. If you missed the cut off and would still like an interview, please contact teachers directly to book a suitable time. Interviews will be held in classrooms during Week 9. There will be no supervision for students during interview times. Students are welcome and encouraged to attend their own interview, however, if this is not your wish, please arrange alternate care for your child during the interview time. This is especially important this year due to the current Capital Work being undertaken around the school as well as OSHC needing to utilise the court and play areas. Please be aware that due to COVID regulations, teachers need to sanitise the interview area after each interview, so please be patient if the start of your interview is delayed.

If you have an outstanding amount and are unable to make any payment, can you please make immediate contact with Bernard or Megan to advise your current situation?

If you are the holder of a means tested Concession Card and have not provided a copy to Finance, please do so.

P & F NEWS

Now’s about the time we again start to discuss plans for our next Fete. However, in order to do this, we need a strong volunteer basis to form what essentially will be our Fete Committee. The old saying “many hands make light work” couldn’t be truer when it comes to organizing large scale events like these, so if you’re interested, we implore you to speak up and let our P&F know. Events like these simply cannot be held without volunteer numbers, and we’ll be gauging interest through various forms this term. We will be running opinion polls through our Facebook page, so keep an eye out to have your say.

Our next P&F meeting will be next Wednesday 9th September at 6:30pm, and we’ll be looking to have some special guests, so spread the word and come along and have a chat about what’s in store for the school.

Reminder:

Wed Sep 9th: P&F Meeting 6:30pm in the Inclusive Curriculum room

Thanks,
Joeys P&F

SCHOOL COUNSELLOR

CHILD PROTECTION WEEK 2020 – PROTECTING KIDS IS EVERYONE’S BUSINESS. PLAY YOUR PART.

2020 THEME - PUTTING KIDS FIRST

We reflect on the safety of our children and how as educators and a school community we prioritise putting children first here at Joeys. We also realise the most important people in children’s lives – their Parents and Carers – The children’s first teachers.

Parenting a child can be a tough gig, both challenging and rewarding. Riding the waves of parenting and moving with the ebbs and flows whilst you navigate life, is how you play your part. You play your part in putting the children in your life first by making them be safe, feel loved and getting support to keep going.

As we head into National CP Week 2020 which starts this Sunday, this can be a time to pause, reflect and remember how you make time and space for the children in your life and put them first.

Working together with our extended families, teachers, neighbours and sports coaches and clubs can be a way that children feel the most important people in our lives and the centre of our lives.
