FROM THE PRINCIPAL
With preparation already underway for our upcoming capital works project, I am requesting that all students bring water bottles to school. As Joey’s is 90 years old, we unfortunately do not have the most accurate plans of the water pipes underground. Due to this fact, even the most careful workers have run into water pipes while working at school. As a precaution, in case workers accidently hit underground water pipes, I ask that all students bring along a water bottle that can be filled up at the beginning of each session so that if the water does need to be turned off for an emergency, students will continue to have access to clean drinking water while the pipes are repaired. No purposeful works involving water will be scheduled during school time, but we also had a situation where the local council had to do some emergency work on Lauga Street and unknowingly switched off our water to do so.
With the hotter months quickly approaching, more access to water can only be a good thing.
As discussed at last night’s capital works information session, the school site will be closed down as of Monday the 9th of December. Ordinarily, our school office would remain open for the week after school is completed, but due to the scheduled asbestos removal and capital works stage 1 demolition, our office for 2019 will close on the final day of school. We will however endeavour to re-open a week earlier on Monday the 13th of January in 2020.
A reminder that if you have any class requests for your child in 2020, please book a time through the office to see me before Monday the 4th of November. After this date, the teaching staff along with the Leadership Team and Learning Support will be meeting and creating the class lists on the following Tuesday’s staff meeting. Then, all class lists will be final.
This week I have tried to include a fairly comprehensive list of important dates for the remainder of the school year. Please take the time to put them into your family calendar.

APRE REFLECTION
Those who humble themselves will be exalted.
The Gospel of Luke 18:9-14
This week’s gospel passage flows on directly from last week’s gospel and continues the teaching of Jesus about prayer. It is the tax collector, whose simple prayer is ‘God, be merciful to me, a sinner,’ who goes home at rights with God. In this simple prayer, the tax collector recognises that he is not in right relationship with God and asks for God’s mercy. We are repeatedly reminded that God’s mercy, forgiveness and abundant love are constantly out-flowing towards us and all we have to do is humbly desire and welcome them.
Certainly, prayer is a time to celebrate with God our triumphs and successes, but above all it is an opportunity to be truly honest with God and with ourselves.

Booklist Supplies Procedures for 2020
A very important note went home a couple of weeks ago explaining a change in procedures for the ordering of back to school booklist requirements for 2020.I strongly encourage you to read it carefully as it has the potential to save you a significant amount of time and money on your child’s back to school supplies for next year. If you are having trouble locating that note or your child’s booklist, they have been added to the Skoolbag app under the parent notes section. If you have any questions about the process or need some assistance with placing your order, please come and see me.
To have your order delivered to school you must have your order in by 5pm Sunday, 3rd November. We’ve had over 70 orders placed already and still have one week to go before the school delivery cut-off date. So far people are saying that the process is very easy to follow and has saved families a significant amount of money. At this stage, students will receive their box of supplies on Monday, 2nd December. Reminders will go out closer to this date on the Skoolbag App so that parents can ensure their child’s order can make it home safely on that day. If you have any feedback on this new process, I’d love to hear it and pass it on to Kookaburra Educational Resources.

P & F NEWS
A note was sent home recently informing everyone about our AGM that will be held on Monday November 11th 2019 at 5:30pm in the staffroom. Never fear, this is not a meeting to be afraid of. There’ll be no jobs/positions handed out (unless you’d like one, or would like to challenge for one of course), but simply a meeting to come and hear what the P&F has been able to achieve with the help of the staff, students, parents and families, throughout the year. Drinks and nibbles will be provided, so we’d love for you to come to our last meeting for the year.
Even though we’ve only just started swimming, our carnival is only weeks away, so we’re asking for people to join the BBQ crew to help cook and serve snags for dinner. It’ll only be for an hour or two on the night and you can come and go in between children’s races. The more the merrier. Please see Amanda Conway if you can help.
Reminder:
Monday November 4th: |
9:00am P&F Coffee and Chat, after assembly |
Monday November 11th: |
P&F AGM 5:30pm in the Staffroom |
Wednesday November 20th: |
Swimming Carnival – Help required to cook and serve BBQ |
Thanks,
Joeys P&F
PARENT LOUNGE
Changes to your address, phone number or work phone number can be made in Parent Lounge. To do this, log in through the Skoolbag App, go to the Parent Details tab, make your changes, and then submit.
Changes to Parent Lounge are the submission of your child’s absentee days (but only for the current term). It will be similar to the way you do this on the Skoolbag app. Once accepted our end (when we log into our computer), this will be entered straight onto our system, and saves the double handling.
SCHOOL BANKING
School banking happens every Thursday.
If you wish to start school banking, you need to open a Youth Saver Account at the Commonwealth bank, make no deposit and they will provide you with your banking book and details.
Please send your child’s banking book in so they can place it in the grey classroom-banking bag.
VOLUNTEERS INDUCTION SESSIONS
WPH&S Volunteers Inductions are necessary for the safety of your children. Therefore, we ask that all parents who generously volunteer their time to the school, either in a classroom or in the tuckshop, attend a very brief induction regarding maintaining a safe environment for the children of St. Joseph’s.
These sessions do not take long and are available after assembly on a Monday morning with Deanne Senini, and on Wednesday afternoons from 2:30pm - 3:00pm. Debbie Rooney will conduct induction sessions in the tuckshop, if you are helping in there.
Thanks
UNIFORM SHOP
Our uniform shop is run by VOLUNTEERS of the school and is open Monday morning from 8:15 - 8:45 and Wednesday afternoon from 2:45 – 3:15. Please feel free to drop any uniforms you no longer need so they can be put out to sell. Proceeds can go back to you or you can donate it back to the P & F.
The Uniform Shop has quite a lot of good second hand uniforms. Please feel free to pop in (at the opening times above), and have a look.
There are second hand Emmaus uniforms also.
FRIDAY PIZZA
Meatlovers and Hawaiian Pizza are available every Friday for $1.50/slice. Please have your order in a Brown Paper Bag with your name, class and order on it, with the money inside.
