FROM THE PRINCIPAL

As the end of the school year draws near, we still have a few significant events to celebrate on the Joey’s calendar. The first of these being our school Presentation Night this Thursday, 29th November. The evening will be held in the school Multi-Purpose Area beginning promptly at 6:00pm. Each grade level has been working hard to prepare a Christmas song to perform on the night, which will also include the presentation of our annual awards that recognise the efforts of students throughout the entire year. I would ask that during the evening we keep general conversation to a minimum as a form of respect for those performing or presenting and receiving awards on the night.

The theme is ‘Christmas Party’ as we celebrate was has been a very positive and productive year.

The night is anticipated to conclude at approximately 7:30pm and it would be lovely to see as many of our students and their families come along and attend.

Next Wednesday evening, 5th December we will be celebrating our Graduation Mass for the Year 6 students, which will mark the culmination of their primary schooling. The evening will commence with mass in OLHC Church at 6:00pm followed by a presentation & dinner for the students and their parents in our Multi-Purpose Area. Parents and children will need to be checked off our list before entering the MPA for dinner. I am sure it will be a memorable night for all those who are involved.

Drawing our school year to a close will be our End of Year Mass on Friday, 7th December. We will be celebrating with a whole school Mass commencing at 9:00am. The Mass not only provides us the opportunity to say fare well to our Year 6 students for the final time, it will also incorporate the induction of our student leaders for the 2019 school year.

We must also be aware that we share Friday’s mass with the Parish so I request that we leave the parking spaces directly outside the church vacant for the use of our senior parishioners.

Please remember that during all of these celebrations that we not use the parking in the mall car park as retailers in the mall have previously mentioned that there is no parking available for their patrons.

In an effort to try and alleviate these parking issues, we will be making parking available on the grassed area beyond the end of the Multi-Purpose Area during all three of our major end of year celebrations.

School reports for the second semester will be posted on Parent Lounge this coming Tuesday, 4th December. Please ensure you have your appropriate login details in order to access your child’s information. Unlike past years, class lists will no longer be displayed in their entirety in the windows of the Media/Drama room. This year your child’s classroom teacher for 2019 will be emailed directly to the address provided in your parent information. If you need to update your details, please do so on Parent Lounge before Monday the 3rd of December.

It is wonderful news that The Lights of Christmas will again be happening this year. Last year’s fantastic light show that used the external facade of St Joseph's Cathedral as a canvas to display an animated, Christmas themed show has just won the Best Small Events Award at the Australian Events Awards last week. The show was truly spectacular and I will openly admit that the Fitzgerald family attended on numerous nights last year to marvel at the show. I am sure this year’s event will be bigger, brighter and even more spectacular.

The family event will again be on between the 17th to the 23rd of December.

Touch Football

With the 2018 touch football season now finished I would like to say a big congratulations to all of the players for their commitment and Joey’s spirit shown throughout the season.

I would like to thank all the coaches, step in coaches and managers who have made it possible for us to nominate a massive 20 teams this year. Without these volunteers giving up their time and Saturday morning sleep-ins we would not be able to participate in the competition.

Thank you to the parents for getting the players to the games and ongoing support for the Joeys teams week in and out.

I hope that everyone has enjoyed the season and I look forward to seeing you all next year for the 2019 season.

Just a quick reminder if you still have your shirt it needs to be returned to your coach/manager ASAP.

Kind Regards
Michelle Smith

BOOKLISTS

2019 booklists have been sent home. Please check with your child that they have received it. If you can’t locate it, we have spares in the office. Once again Capricorn Educational Resources (CER) in Alexandra Street have offered to give a generous amount of money back to the school when Joeys parents purchase their school supplies from them. Of course you are able to purchase your child’s supplies from wherever you wish however the ladies from CER guarantee supply of the correct equipment. Teachers put a significant amount of thought and time into developing the booklists so I ask that you provide your child with all the equipment listed. If purchasing from CER you are welcome to drop your order into school before the end of Term or take it directly to CER.

RACQ ROAD SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAMS

CLASSROOM NEWS

Yr 1

Year 1 students are HOT!

This term has got super-hot and we are doing our best to stay cool and to keep learning for the next few weeks.

This term we have been taking the time to see God. We have all made a clay figurine of what God looks like to us. To some God was strong like a boulder, to others God was gentle like the clouds.

We have been learning about light and sound in Science. We’ve learned lots of new words like particles, waves, vibration and mechanical movement.

In English we’ve been writing information reports and have learned heaps about different animals so we can teach others about them.

In Maths, we have been exploring what features 3D objects have and the difference between 2D and 3D shapes. We have also each designed and constructed a robot using these shapes and objects which was lots of fun.

We also loved heading to prep G to read our writing to them. It was fun to share our writing with someone and to teach what Grade 1 is all about.

Unfortunately, we had to say goodbye to Mrs Chapman who had been completing her internship with Mrs Hannah as she’s now finished university. She’s been dropping in often as she misses us so much and we are so proud of her hard work.

Keeping cool in Year 1!
Mrs Hannah & Mrs Fox
