FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Tonight, we culminate our Term 4 swimming program with our annual swim carnival at the Southside Memorial Pool. The carnival will commence at 5:00pm on the dot, with our youngest students and our grade 6 helpers in the middle 25m pool first. We realize that it is a school night so we ask that you be at the pool by 4:45pm in order to be ready for our carnival to begin as scheduled.
Our hard-working P&F Association will be running a BBQ for dinner as the carnival does tend to be run over the usual evening meal period.
Due to the majority of our younger students going home earlier from the carnival, age championship medals and the overall house trophy winner will be presented in the MPA 8:35am on Friday morning at a whole school assembly.
Well done to Mrs Brennan for what I know in advance will be a great carnival. You may also notice some of our staff missing tonight. Those not in attendance are required to be at a CEO writing project presentation night on behalf of the school. As we book the swimming carnival 12 months in advance, this is a clash that is unfortunately unavoidable.
This week also saw the last of our P&F meetings for the year. I would like to take the time to thank both the P&F and the School Board for what has been a very big year. Someone mentioned the word ‘Fete’ the other day and I shuddered to think our next one is only 18 months away. A reminder that our P&F Community Spirt Award for 2018 will also be handed out at our Presentation Night next week.
All year levels are starting to prepare for our annual Presentation Night that will be held on Thursday, 29th November. Please look for individual correspondence from your child’s teacher as to what may be needed for the evening. We will begin with our Kindy kids first but please remember our big four awards are handed out at the end of the evening. A lack of chairs has sometimes been an issue, so if you are able to bring one along that may help alleviate the problem.
A reminder that the theme is ‘Christmas Party’ and the evening will begin at 6:00pm. Gates to the MPA will open at 5:30pm and students will be required to sit with their class groups on the bench seating provided.
We will also be opening the back gate to the oval to provide extra parking spaces for the evening. Just a reminder that our friends from the mall sometimes have an issue with people from our school community parking in their spaces and attending school functions.
Finally, our ‘Dress as a Farmer’ day and raffle last week was a huge success. The community raised over $1500 for families from St Joseph’s Blackall that have been severely affected by drought. The money will purchase vouchers from local businesses in the area so that all money will stay in the Blackall community. Thank-you to all who helped contribute.

APRE REFLECTION
This week marks the end of the liturgical year. Next week, with the first week of Advent, we begin the new liturgical cycle. It is fitting that the Church concludes the liturgical year with the celebration of Christ the King. The conversation between Jesus and Pilate displays a lot of word play on the part of Jesus and quite a lot of confusion on the part of Pilate. The confusion stems from different perceptions of what it means to be a king.

BOOKLISTS
2019 booklists were sent home last week. Please check with your child that they have received it. If you can’t locate it, we have spares in the office. Once again Capricorn Educational Resources (CER) in Alexandra Street have offered to give a generous amount of money back to the school when Joeys parents purchase their school supplies from them. Of course you are able to purchase your child’s supplies from wherever you wish however the ladies from CER guarantee supply of the correct equipment. Teachers put a significant amount of thought and time into developing the booklists so I ask that you provide your child with all the equipment listed. If purchasing from CER you are welcome to drop your order into school before the end of Term or take it directly to CER.

Count down!
The count down to the end of the year is on! Year 3 has been working very hard on our song for the Presentation Night. We are doing the Aussie version of Jingle Bells so keep a look out for some kangaroos and a rusty Holden ute!
This term the students have been working very hard on their animal information reports, and also designing a lunch box which is environmentally friendly and includes some futuristic technology.
We did a very big clean-up of the school and looked into how damaging rubbish can be on the environment. They will also be doing a Google Slide presentation on their information report. You might like them to practice this at home.
See you at the Presentation Night!
