FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL

Tonight we culminate our Term 4 swimming program with our annual swim carnival at the Southside Memorial Pool. The carnival will commence at 5:00pm on the dot, with our youngest students and our grade 6 helpers in the middle 25m pool first. We realise that it is a school night so we ask that you be at the pool by 4:45pm in order to be ready for our carnival to begin as scheduled.

Our hard working P&F Association will be running a BBQ for dinner as the carnival does tend to be run over the usual evening meal period.

As the majority of our Year 6 students will be at an Emmaus orientation day on Thursday, age championship medals and the overall trophy winner will be presented in the MPA on Friday morning at a whole school assembly.

Well done to Mrs Bernadette Brennan for what I know in advance will be a great carnival.

Last week, green coloured 2018 Enrolment Confirmation letters were sent home with the eldest in each family. With staffing and the 2018 school budget tied very closely with our enrolments, I need to know accurate numbers entering into the new school year. At the moment we are turning away many people who want to enrol their child at St Joseph’s. If for whatever reason your child may not be returning with us next year, I would appreciate that you let me know as soon as possible.

All year levels are starting to prepare for our annual Presentation Night that will be held on Thursday night next week. Please look for individual correspondence from your child’s teacher as to what may be needed for the evening. We will begin with our Kindy kids first but please remember our big four awards are handed out at the end of the evening. A lack of chairs has sometimes been an issue, so if you are able to bring one along that may help alleviate the problem.

A reminder that the theme is ‘Let’s Celebrate’ and the evening will begin at 6:00pm. Gates to the MPA will open at 5:30pm and students will be required to sit with their class groups on the bench seating provided.

APRE REFLECTION

Over the past few weeks many of our classes have been exploring the new prayer boxes that were created to provide the students with a variety of ways to talk to God. As a school we are working on building better relationships between ourselves and God through engaging in different ways with God. As our students have different personalities and different strengths, they will also develop different preferences for the way prayer best fits with them.

The photos below are one of the prayer experiences that the Year 6 class has been interacting with; ‘God of Creation.’ The photographs can be a powerful tool for prayer as they inspire the imagination, remind us of places we encounter God and encourage reflection more deeply as they are linked to experiences, places and events of life.

RELIGIOUS MATTERS

PRESENTATION NIGHT

This year our Presentation Night will be Thursday 23rd November and the theme is Let’s Celebrate. Classes will be presenting songs and some dance performances during the evening which commences at 6:00pm. Our annual school awards will also be presented throughout this evening.

NO Prayer Assembly this week

Due to our final Children’s Mass for 2017 being held this weekend, there will be no class led prayer assembly in OLHC Church this Friday morning.

Final Children’s Mass for 2017

Our final Children’s Mass with the Our Lady Help of Christians Parish will be held this Saturday evening the 18th of November. It would be lovely to have as many of the Joey’s community come along to celebrate. It would be especially great to have as many of our Year 6 students as possible as it will be their last parish mass as St Joseph’s Park Avenue students. Hope to see you there.

‘Vinnies’ Christmas Hampers – Term 4 Joeys Giving Plan

As a school community we are continuing to collect items for the ‘Joey’s Christmas Hamper Appeal’ over the next two weeks. Families are asked to donate an item each week to their child’s classroom hamper where possible. Please ensure that all items have an expiry date that would reach into early 2018 allowing ample time for the St Vincent DePaul Society to distribute the food to those who are less fortunate than us in our own local community.

If you are able, please help support this worthwhile cause.

Sacramental Program

The next Sacramental Programme will commence early in Term 1, 2018 with the children journeying through the Sacraments of Penance (Reconciliation), Confirmation and Eucharist. Please complete the attached letter and return to school to show your expression of interest.

CURRICULUM NEWS

BOOKLISTS

2018 booklists were sent home last week. Please check with your child that they have received it. If you can’t locate it, we have spares in the office. Once again Capricorn Educational Resources (CER) in Alexandra Street have offered to give a generous amount of money back to the school when Joeys parents purchase their school supplies from them. Of course you are able to purchase your child’s supplies from wherever you wish however I have worked closely with the ladies from CER and they guarantee supply of the correct equipment. Teachers put a significant amount of thought and time into developing the booklists so I ask that you provide your child with all the equipment listed. If purchasing from CER you are welcome to drop your order into school before the end of Term or take it directly to CER.

Deanne Senini

CLASSROOM NEWS

YR 4

It is hard to believe that we only have 3 weeks left in Year 4. What good times we have had this term!!!!!

We have been busy making stop motion animations as part of our Religion and Technology. We have designed stop motion animation around two parables – The Lost Son and The Good Samaritan.

This term in Drama we have had a lot of fun. We have been play building and developing skills to create characters for improvisation activities. We have been experimenting with loudness/softness, pace and pitch in our voices as well as varying our facial expressions to create roles in various situations, places and events.

From here we have applied story structures to our own drama creating improvisations using props to share with others. We have had a lot of laughs in the room and have seen many different creative characters in the classroom.

This week we are preparing for Presentation Night. You will hear plenty of singing coming from our classroom!!!!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY
