Thanks for Grandparents Day

As always, last Friday’s Feast Day mass for St Joseph’s Day and the Grandparents morning tea that followed was absolutely tremendous. Well done to Mrs Brennan and the students for a wonderful Mass and to all the Joey’s students for their participation in the celebration in very hot conditions.

Mrs McCutcheon and the choir performed beautifully for those whom gathered after mass. Many Grandparents asked me to pass on their thanks to all who honored them throughout the day, such as those in our community who provided food to the parents and students who helped serve on the day.

Thank-you to all those who contributed towards making the day such a wonderful event.

Congratulations to Jenny Puckering who was presented with the P&F Community Spirit Award after mass last Friday. Jenny can often be seen helping at Breakfast Club, in the tuck-shop, in the library and even helping out in our classrooms all usually while proudly wearing her Joey’s Supporters shirt.

Well done Jenny you are a wonderful part of our Joey’s community.

Well done to all who contributed to the Year 6 Easter Raffle that was drawn on Friday at our Grandparents Morning Tea. Due to the generosity of those who contributed, over $2100 was raised to help with the Year 6 camp.

This Saturday evening, we will be celebrating what may be our final Children’s Mass under the current format and time. It would be fantastic to have as many of our community present to celebrate along with our parish community.

Fr Matt, with further consultation with the parish community has put forth a new schedule for mass times that will come into effect after Easter. I have included this new schedule as a PDF document for your perusal.

Don’t Forget …

  • 25th March, Sacramental Family Workshop OLHC 5:00pm
  • 25th March, Children’s Mass 6:00pm
  • 28-31 March, Year 6 School Camp at Chaverim

Have a great week.

Regards

APRE REFLECTION

Uncle Richard joined a Caritas Australia supported group called Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC), a group made up of men who were in the home with him. To support their friends, they listen to each other’s stories as they deal with the hurt and loss they have experienced. Uncle Richard and his friends tell their stories to young people and old people. He will never forget what happened. Uncle Richard and his friends try to be role models for First Australian children helping them to be happy and proud of who they are. When you support Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion you are walking with Uncle Richard and his friends as they strive to live their lives to the full.

CLASSROOM NEWS

Yr 1F

This term, 1F students and I have loved coming to St Joseph’s. We have settled very well into Year 1 life. Learning is fun with student lead activities, small group learning and rotations across subjects. Sometimes we even work together with 1M.

During Religion, Year 1 students have wondered about baptism. We have investigated the symbols and celebration of baptism today and compared it to the baptism of Jesus in the River Jordan by John the Baptist. Recently we visited Our Lady Help of Christians Church to look first hand at the baptismal font, the oils and the paschal candle. The importance of each of these in regard to baptism was explained. In our classroom, students have re-enacted the modern day baptism. The boys and girls have given “our babies” names and welcomed them into God’s family and the church community. All students have participated enthusiastically and now have a greater understanding of the meaning of baptism.

SCHOOL TOILET SAFETY

The students are very aware that the toilets are for just that… going to the toilet. They are not places to hang out with buddies, eat or play. They have one important purpose and that is what it should be used for.

Posters have been placed around the toilet blocks as a visual reminder to students. The safety message of ‘Recognise, React and Report’ is one well used at school. We would appreciate families discussing these themes and phrases at home. We need our students to understand and be aware that toilets are not a social place, that going to the toilet is private and that these procedures are put in place for the safety of themselves and others.
