FROM THE ACTING PRINCIPAL
Last week the Queensland Police Force contacted the school in relation to the safety of our children both before and after school. In relation to these concerns they will be holding a Speed Blitz campaign to monitor the traffic around our school and specifically in, but not exclusive to Haynes Street.
The Police presence is to monitor the 50km speed limit and traffic flow patterns in the congested area around the Kindy. This particular street unfortunately experiences some high-speed traffic due to the proximity of traffic lights while also bordering an industrial estate.
Please be aware of this enhanced police presence, as it has been put in place for the safety of our children.
Our new fence for the Multi-Purpose Area should be installed this week. The instillation of this fence will result in greater security for the school as well as safety for our students. I spoke with the entire school community on Monday Assembly and reminded them of our rules about play in the morning. Acceptable play areas will become much easier for the children to identify, as the fence will be a physical barrier separating the MPA, which is designated for play before school from the school court yard that is not. A general reminder also that there is to be no play on the Prep playground in the morning or afternoon as there is no school staff member on duty. Thank-you in advance for your co-operation in these matters.
Our St Joseph’s whole school Feast Day Mass followed by our Grandparents Morning Tea will be held this Friday, the 17th of March commencing with the mass in OLHC Church at 9:00am followed by the morning tea in the MPA till 11:00am.
As we share Friday’s mass with the Parish so I request that we leave the parking spaces directly outside the church vacant for the use of our parishioners.
Please remember that during all of these celebrations that we not use the parking in the mall car park as retailers in the mall have previously complained that there is no parking for their patrons. In an effort to try and alleviate these parking issues we will be making parking available on the grassed area beyond the end of the Multi-Purpose Area for this Friday’s celebration.
Just a reminder that our Year 6 class will be holding a free dress day this Thursday the 16th of March. The theme for the day will be ‘Sporting Colours’. Students are asked to wear colours from sporting teams they represent or support. As this is a fundraising activity for the Year 6 Camp Fundraiser, we are asking for a ‘gold coin’ from each of the students on this day.
Don’t Forget …
- Free dress day – Thurs, 16th March (Sporting Colours Theme)
- St Joseph’s Day/Grandparents Day – Fri, 17th March
- St Patrick’s Race Day – Sat, 18th March
- Dance Fever Showcase – Tues, 21st March
Have a great week.

APRE REFLECTION
Timor-Leste is one of the least developed countries in the world, with the scars of conflict running deep into all areas of society. With the help of Project Compassion, Martina can now provide food for her family and is financially independent. This also enables her children the privilege of attending school. Our support for Caritas during Project Compassion empowers these communities like Martina’s to lift their spirits and lead better lives.

SCHOOL TOILET SAFETY
The students are very aware that the toilets are for just that… going to the toilet. They are not places to hang out with buddies, eat or play. They have one important purpose and that is what it should be used for.
Posters have been placed around the toilet blocks as a visual reminder to students. The safety message of ‘Recognise, React and Report’ is one well used at school. We would appreciate families discussing these themes and phrases at home. We need our students to understand and be aware that toilets are not a social place, that going to the toilet is private and that these procedures are put in place for the safety of themselves and others.
